Samsung Galaxy tablet leaked

Samsung's upcoming Android tablet has been hinted at before, and was first revealed back in June. But now a Chinese news site called ifanr.com has scored some nice pictures of the device (translated here). From the pictures, it looks very much like a prototype, but the site claims it's running Android 2.2, Froyo, has a 7 inch screen running at 1024x600 resolution. They also say it has two cameras, one front facing, one rear facing.

There have been so many leaks and rumors about this device, which is supposedly called the Galaxy Tab, that it's probably safe to say it's no longer a question of "if," but "when." There's been a flurry of Android tablet rumors lately, and several manufacturers have said that they'll have tablets ready for the holiday shopping season. And if a recent Gizmodo poll is to be believed, consumers definitely want an Android tablet over the more well-known alternative.

I can't honestly say I'm not all that excited about this tablet. I don't particularly care for Samsung products myself, since they don't have the best track record with keeping their products updated, but I'm sure it will sell very well once it's released. If they price it right, it could be a very viable iPad alternative for people who either don't want to buy Apple products or who can't afford a $500 iPad.

Personally, I still don't see much need for a tablet of any kind. They don't seem to serve enough of a purpose to justify buying one over a laptop or smartphone. But a 7-inch tablet could be a perfect sweet spot of portability and usefulness, so I'm quite curious to see it in person.

I don't know much about this tablet in particular, but I am definitely one of those who would be interested in an Android tablet, depending on how well it's executed. Maybe not this one necessarily, but it'll be good to get the ball rolling.
